SOLD OUT – Break a Leg & Friends Fundraising for The Lord Mayor’s Charity

Thursday 09 March 2023 | 8pm
Nether Edge Bowling Club, Sheffield

Sorry we are sold out for this event. If you would like to be on the list for returned tickets please message us here

This might be our most harmonic Fundraiser yet, with two exquisite duos.

The Pitsmoor Ladies Ukelele Chorale (Caroline Webb and Stacey Almond) are guaranteed to raise some very big smiles and a lot of laughter with their very individual mix of beautiful harmony singing and stories of their exciting lives as students at the prestigious Pitsmoor Conservatoire.

Karen & Chris met Lapwing only recently and were bowled over by their singing and harmony arrangements. We decided straight away that they were just right for us. Ben and Ellen are both experienced musicians but they’ve just started performing together and this is their first proper public performance, so another World Premiere for Break a Leg and Friends.

Your resident orchestra will be supporting them. Is it Folk Music? Is it Jazz? Are we Sheffield’s smallest Swing Band? Who knows? Who cares? We just love to play for you.

This month, by special request of our guest musicians, we are raising funds for the Sheffield Lord Mayor’s Charity. This year’s causes chosen by the Lord Mayor are children’s literacy, women & children fleeing domestic abuse & The Palliative Care Centre at the Northern General Hospital.

Tickets are £4 in advance (£5 on the night if we don’t sell out, usually we do) and we will also be doing fundraising activities on the night so bring cash and a generous heart.

Doors open 7:30pm. Get there in good time and we won’t keep you sitting around, music starts at 8pm.

If you are unable to come but would like to send us a donation for this month’s charity partner, here’s a link.

It’s the Break a Leg end of year celebration. So your resident orchestra will be top of the bill. Is it Folk Music? Is it Jazz? Are we Sheffield’s smallest Swing Band? Who knows? Who cares? We just love to play for you.

We will be supported by two lovely musicians, Bob King, a big favourite with our supporters, and Carol Fieldhouse, somebody new for us but highly recommended by our very good musical friend, Michelle Laverick (who has had to drop out of this one). We are really looking forward to the final event of a great year of live music.

Break a Leg! & Friends Fundraising for The Rose Garden Cafe

Nether Edge Bowling Club, Sheffield
Thursday 20 Oct 2022 | 8pm

Bone Cupboard is not your usual folk trio. Charlie Osguthorpe is an irreverent songwriter with an amazing voice, more gravel than a highways department dump truck. He is joined by two great musicians, Dave Markham and Kathy Cookson to produce an infectious mix of songs that will keep you wide awake throughout their set.

As usual there will be a second guest performer so watch this space.

This month we are raising funds for SAYiT (The Sheena Amos Youth Trust) who support the emotional wellbeing of young lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. This year all our events have a strong mental health theme.

Our guests this month:

On the Back Porch (Issy Howie and Bob Delbridge) are masters of Old Time American music, as well as playing a big part in supporting the community of music-makers in Sheffield. Issy is also one third of the Outlaw Sisters and Bob is a key figure in The Bapchilds, regarded by many as Britain’s leading exponents of Honkytonk music.

Helen Rice is Showing Off
Helen writes quirky songs exploring a broad range of themes and reflecting on her experiences as a middle-aged disabled woman who likes bread a bit too much. As well as solo showing off she is a member of Fish Pie Cabaret and performs folk music with Mush Melons. She is very funny and often quite moving.

Unfortunately the PITSMOOR LADIES UKELELE CHORALE have had to pull out as Caroline has had a painful accident. Thanks to Helen for stepping up at short notice and a speedy recovery to Caroline (who is still cracking jokes)

Mums In Need do vital work, supporting Sheffield mothers escaping from emotional abuse, every penny we raise will help a local mother suffering coercive control. They are the Make Your Mark UK Charity of the Year.

A welcome return for Lost Kind Words, Jo and Paul call their music ‘Dark Country’ and when we first saw them we were struck by their presence and the energy in their music. They played for us at the White Lion and we were not disappointed so it’s a real treat to have them back after the long break.

We met Bob King at one of the music sessions in Wirksworth run by lovely Michelle Laverick. We were straight away struck by his fresh, warm, engaging musicality and we’ve been waiting two years for the chance to bring him to Sheffield.

SOLD OUT – Break a Leg & Friends Fundraising for Kickback Recovery

The Lescar, Sharrow Vale, Sheffield
Tuesday 15 February 2021 | 8pm*

A great night, sold out and lots of fun, we raised £560 for Kickback. Thanks to everyone who came along

Our acoustic music fundraisers are back with two of our favourite musical friends.

Kickback is a brilliant organisation, supporting self-help for people recovering from addiction. Last time we did a gig with them we had the best time ever, just great people.

Ar Faoued is one of our favourite bands, specially requested by Kickback because they created such great music and atmosphere last time round. Rich arrangements and powerful performances of original songs and old favourites.

Michelle Laverick’s thoughtfulness and and musicality make new friends every time she plays. Half an hour in her company is a delight to be savoured.
